Ice Cream Plant
Ice Cream Plant is a newcomer, having just launched in 2016 by owner Robb Zimmerman. They make vegan, allergy-friendly ice cream and ship pints to different restaurants and markets around metro Detroit, like Achatz Homemade Pie Co, Holiday Market, Plum Market and Western Market. Mainstay flavors include maple bourbon, darkest dark chocolate, cinnamon, volcano salt vanilla and then they also make season flavors, like Blue Moon for the summer. Located in Walled Lake, Dairy Twist Cafe boasts the “largest selection” of vegan soft serve and vegan hand dip ice cream in Oakland County. That means their vegan ice cream is dairy-free, gluten-free, fat-free, cholesterol-free, peanut and tree nut-free, as well as kosher certified. Get it in a cone, cup or quart to take home. While this technically isn’t ice cream, Detroit Water Ice Factory still makes a delicious treat for a hot summer day. Located downtown in Campus Martius, the Mitch Albom-backed cafe makes a dairy-free, fat-free, cholesterol-free sweet treat it a variety of flavors, like Salted Margarita, Woodward Watermelon and Riverfront Root Beer. Plus, 100% of their profits go towards S.A.Y. Detroit. Detroit Vegan Soul also makes this list on a technicality, since they aren’t exclusively a place to get vegan ice cream. But, they make up for it by being a place where everything is vegan! Once you’re finished enjoying a delicious, vegan meal, ask your server about their vegan desserts or try one of their vegan milkshakes, made with Volcano Salt Vanilla ice cream from Ice Cream Plant.
